January Meeting
1/8/2022

Our next class is coming up THIS SUNDAY, January 8 at our usual time and place. Diane Haberer will show us how to do 7-strand Kumihimo with beads. This is an easier version than 8-strand Kumihimo. The movement of only seven strand simplifies the movements and results in a nice beaded rope.

Pictured is Sally Beads’ 7-strand template to use for this project. If you don’t already own a template, Diane will bring some to the meeting for you, or you can simply turn your own disc over and write the alphabetical letters at the corresponding slots as shown in the picture.

For the meeting you will need:

  • A Kumihimo disk
  • 7 strands of cord: either S-lon nylon cord or rattail.
  • Seed beads: either 8/o of 6/o
  • Some sort of clip: (a saftey pin or binder clip) to add a little bit of weight to the developing rope.
  • End caps and clasp for a bracelet or Diane will bring split rings to make a key fob.

Also it is advised that you add at least 25 beads to each thread, you can always add more if you need to.
To make it easier to thread the beads on the cord, stiffen the end into a needle with glue beforehand.

Tip: Match your bead size to the cord. Diane suggests size 8/0 on S-lon and 6/o on rattail. The thread should fill the hole in the bead by half.
